Seventeen-year-old Saoirse is done with exams and looking forward to a long, hot summer before starting university. She's planning on partying, watching horror movies, and maybe kissing a few girls to forget about her troubles. Since breaking up with her ex Hannah, she's been feeling alone and angry, trying to cope with her mother's illness and her dad's bombshell announcement of remarrying at the end of the summer.

And then appears Ruby, who Saoirse thinks might just be the prettiest girl she's ever seen. With a love for romantic comedies and a belief in true love, Ruby challenges Saoirse to try out a summer romance without all the heavy drama, just like in the movies. Can Saoirse let go of her cynicism and give love a chance, or will the reality of a relationship be different from what she's seen in the movies?
