Reese had almost everything she wanted: a great relationship with Amy, a cozy apartment in New York City, and a job she didn't mind. She had managed to build a life that previous generations of trans women could only dream of, filled with everyday comforts. The only thing she felt was missing was a child.

But when Amy transitioned back to Ames, everything fell apart. Now Reese finds herself stuck in a cycle of self-destructive behavior, trying to fill the void left by loneliness by seeking solace in the arms of married men.

Ames is also struggling in his new life. He had hoped that detransitioning would make things easier, but it ended up costing him his relationship with Reese – the only family he had. Despite their breakup, he still yearns to find a way back to her. When Katrina, his boss and lover, reveals she's pregnant with his child and unsure of what to do, Ames wonders if this could be the opportunity he's been waiting for.
